On September 2, 2026, the kick-off meeting for the E-FIRING Project took place at Costa Verde’s facilities. This is a research and development initiative aimed at exploring new firing technologies applied to porcelain production, contributing to more efficient, sustainable industrial processes that are prepared for the challenges of decarbonization. The project brings together Costa Verde, Brastherm, and the University of Aveiro, through its Department of Materials and Ceramic Engineering and its Department of Physics, in a partnership that combines scientific knowledge, technological capability, and industrial experience. E-FIRING aims to investigate the potential of new firing solutions capable of processing ceramic pieces with different geometries, using lower temperatures and significantly reduced processing times. The adoption of these technologies could represent a major advance in the energy efficiency of the production process, enabling a significant reduction in energy consumption and natural gas use, and in certain applications, potentially even eliminating it altogether. The possibility of using electricity from renewable sources also opens up new opportunities for reducing greenhouse gas emissions associated with ceramic production. With a strong focus on research, development, and innovation, E-FIRING seeks to transform scientific knowledge into solutions with industrial application, contributing to the evolution of porcelain manufacturing processes. For Costa Verde, participation in this project reinforces its commitment to innovation, production process efficiency, and sustainability, in an industry facing significant challenges in terms of energy and decarbonization. E-FIRING thus represents another step forward in the search for solutions that enable better production, with greater efficiency and lower environmental impact, contributing to a more competitive and sustainable ceramic industry.
