Creation of disruptive products in the porcelain sector through optimized manufacturing processes integrating Laser technology
What is LaserMarKer?
The LaserMarKer project aims to integrate an innovation component into the production process of the ceramic industry. In the national business context, this is a significant industrial sector that is built on a robust production system, often relying on traditional base technologies where advanced automation and process control are still not widespread.
Costa Verde, the leading company in this project, operates in the utilitarian and decorative ceramics sector, with its main national and international markets being the hospitality and restaurant sectors.
In a highly competitive market with high energy costs, the company’s success increasingly depends on adopting strategies that promote diversification of business areas, as well as strategies that foster innovation in products, processes, and services.
This project arises from the urgent need to provide traceability throughout the production process of tableware porcelain — from shaping to kiln exit. The goal is to enable internal tracking of each product to obtain data that make the production process more efficient.
Additionally, the project also aims to incorporate product traceability at the consumer level, allowing access to information about each piece and aligning with the European Green Deal’s Product Digital Passport (PDP) guidelines.
Main areas of technology implementation
Laser engraving coded information: in the form of a code (e.g., a QR code), on a ceramic piece after its shaping, enabling the traceability of this product throughout the manufacturing process, thereby contributing to improved quality and efficiency of the production process. This mark, individually inscribed on the product, can be used in the post-production phase, enhancing after-sales support, namely by enabling the implementation of the Product Digital Passport (PDP), as предусмотрed under the European Green Deal.
Decorative motifs/logos engraving — without using inks or pigments, meaning no additional firing is necessary.
Customized surface treatment for small series — engraving customer-requested information on demand, just in time, also without pigments or firing.
Main goal of the project
- The aim of LaserMarKer is to create disruptive products in the porcelain sector by optimizing manufacturing processes and integrating parameterized Laser technology suited to the characteristics of these products and their production process.
