The Gastronomic Brotherhood “As Saínhas” from Vagos has held its XIII Chapter, an event marked by the union of more than 50 brotherhoods from all over the country, dedicated to the celebration of the iconic figure of “Gandareza Woman”, an act of recognition on the strength, resilience and contribution of country-side women and where the importance of preserving gastronomic traditions was also highlighted as a way of keeping cultural identity alive, while connecting with the region’s deep roots.
Costa Verde, Confrere of Honour, has once again joined this moment, by being present and being responsible for the production of the official porcelain piece that was offered to all the brotherhoods present and other official entities. The Gastronomic Brotherhood “As Saínhas” from Vagos was established back on March 8th, 2009, by holding its headquarters in Vagos, Portugal, and its mission is to dignify Portuguese gastronomic tradition, in particular that one from Vagos. The name “As Saínhas” refers to a typical delicacy from the region, consisting of “rojões” made from the pig’s intestines. Fried until crispy and with a delicate lacy appearance, these culinary delights are a testimony to local gastronomic ingenuity and tradition.
This brotherhood is exclusively made up of women, by highlighting its importance in preserving and promoting the region’s food traditions. Through various activities and events, the Gastronomic Brotherhood “As Saínhas” strives to keep Vagos’ cultural heritage alive, while celebrating the richness and diversity of its food.
