The beginning of a new year is always a time for reflection and planning! Based on public indicators, we realise that Portugal has achieved the most significant results in the history of national tourism.<\/p>\n

According to Travel BI, the country’s overall Revpar is expected to exceed 15% and overall revenue by more than 13 % compared to 2022, with the main source markets that have evolved the most and at the same time contributed to this growth being the USA and Germany.<\/p>\n

This evolution was due to the fact that we continue to be a destination with high European demand, due to the friendliness of the population, the good weather, but most of all due to the existing security (far from military conflicts).
\nHowever, not everything is a bed of roses, and we\u2019ve been facing critical problems that could jeopardise the future of tourism, such as the inability to respond to the structures that support tourism: airport, railway, hospitals, among others. But there is also a lack of housing available for rent and\/or purchase at affordable prices, which in turn affects the availability of human resources, jeopardising the operation of resorts.<\/p>\n

However, if there were any doubts about the future of tourism in Portugal, we need only to look at the growth of the hotel sector that is expected over the next few years. Most of the capital is coming from investment funds, which are betting on safe development\/growth destinations with high rates of return in the medium term.
\nThe Portuguese Hotel Directors’ Association, committed to bringing the most important issues up to date, will be discussing this and other topics on March 21st and 22nd, in Aveiro, at the 20th PHDA congress, at the same time as the only awards that distinguish and recognise hostelry professionals, the X\u00e9nios.<\/p>\n

Fernando Garrido<\/a> – President of Portuguese Hotel Directors Association<\/p>\n

Bachelor’s degree in Tourism and Hotel Management from the Instituto Superior Polit\u00e9cnico Internacional and postgraduate degree in Tourism, Fernando Garrido has been the President of the Association of Hotel Directors of Portugal since May 2022, where he served as Vice President from 2013 to 2022.<\/p>\n

Since February 2022, he has been the General Manager of Olissippo Oriente, having transitioned from Olissippo Marqu\u00eas de S\u00e1, which he managed from 2019 to 2022. Previously, he managed the Hotel York House Lisboa, one of the most emblematic properties in Lisbon.<\/p>\n

His resume also includes a stint at the Accor group, where he served as Procurement Category Manager for Accor Iberian Peninsula, Assistant Manager in various group units, including Mercure Lisboa and Figueira da Foz, and Novotel Set\u00fabal. He simultaneously held responsibility for the Mercure brand’s restaurant committee in Portugal.<\/p>\n

Currently, he is also a lecturer at ESHTE – Estoril Higher School of Tourism and Hospitality and in Tourism Management at ISCE – Lisbon and Vale do Tejo Higher Institute.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
